What are Hormones?

There are over 200 hormones in the body all doing hundreds of different jobs.  Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. They travel in your bloodstream to communicate with tissues or organs. Almost every activity in our body is controlled by hormones; they dictate our digestion, our physical drives, growth, energy, how much we weigh, to name a few.* 

What does Hormonal Balance mean?

When in a healthy balanced state, you are unaware of your hormones doing their job.  Many hormones provide multiple functions.  For example, the thyroid hormone governs your energy, appetite, mood, weight and body temperature.  Thyroid hormone is also responsible for the health of your skin, hair and nails.  The hormone system is a very complex system that requires the appropriate building blocks to function optimally.*

Exercise: Regular exercise is fundamental to your health and vitality. Overall, some changes due to exercise are considered beneficial, however, you must be careful because over-doing it can have negative effects.  In most cases moderate amounts of exercise produce positive effects.*  Look for ways to incorporate exercise into your weekly routine and make it a habit. Stress Management: Stress can negatively affect your health and your moods. When you are in a state of stress, your body goes into a “fight or flight” mode and responds by releasing many hormones into your system.  This is a good response when you are truly in danger but not for a normal state.  The problem in today’s high stress world, our systems are operating in the “fight or flight” mode for prolonged periods of time and therefore, for most of us, it requires a conscious stress management effort.   Healthy stress management ideas include exercise, massage, meditation, relaxation and recreation.  The following are some essential oil suggestions to support your stress management.
